If you are looking for a place to dock your boat or have views of the water then Colington is worth checking out. Colington consists of two main islands and a bunch of smaller marsh islands. As you leave Kill Devil Hills you will cross a small bridge that separates Kill Devil Hills From Little Colington Island.

Some of the subdivisions on Little Colington Island include Watersedge and Colington Point. Another bridge puts you on Big Colington Island where you can find Swan View Shores, The Cliffs of Colington, Baycliff, William Colington Estates and Colington Harbour. Most of these subdivisions offer water front and water views.

Most of the sound is too shallow for boats so serious boaters end up in Colington Harbour. Real estate values continue to hold up in this private, gated community because a majority of the homes are on deep water canals.

Even with a gate the community of Colington Harbour has held on to the residential feel with most of it occupied by working local families. But if you have a sail boat and need 5 feet of water depth or you just want to dock a boat in your backyard, Colington Harbour is the place to be.

Colington real estate has managed to hold onto it's value during the 2006 downturn in the real estate market.
