All sports radio station airs on the Outer Banks
Published April 9, 2008 by Sabrina GordonThe first full time sports radio channel has come to the Outer Banks from CapSan Media. The channel began broadcasting on 92.3FM on March 13th. The sports director will be Hunt Thomas with Jeff White as assistant program director. They will cover regional sports action. The radio station 92.3 used to broadcast country music as a part of the Wilbur 92.3, Orville 97.1 simulcast. Though country will still be able to be heard on the 97.1 station.
The program director Matt Cooper thinks that an all sports format was needed on the Outer Banks. He said that they looked carefully about what to put on the local airwaves and he thinks the Outer Banks “Will embrace the exciting and dynamic programming of ESPN Radio.”
CapSan Media who is lead by Bill Whitlow and Jason Baker, owns and operates four radio stations in Northeastern North Carolina. They are The Sound 99.1 WVOD, Country 97.1 WYND, Classic Hits 104.9 WFMZ and ESPN Radio 92.3 WZPR.
