Published October 1, 2007 by admin

It’s clean-up time on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore beaches and roadsides.

The Outer Banks is known for beautiful, clean beaches and we all need to do our part to keep them that way.

Saturday, September 29th is official National Public Lands Day and begins the state-wide litter-free campaign, culminating in The Big Sweep to be held on Saturday, October 6th.

All volunteers are welcome! Contacts for the various Hatteras Island areas are as follows:

Call Ricki Shepherd at (252) 986-2703 to find out how you can help the Civic Association in Hatteras Village; the Outer Banks Preservation Association will cover from Buxton to Avon so call John Couch at (252) 995-4955 to help; Frank Folk of Frank& Fran’s is heading up the Avon area, (252) 994-4171; and the Rodanthe, Waves & Salvo Civic Association effort is organizing under Joanne Mason at (252) 995-2249.

If you plan to be up near Pea Island on Big Sweep Day, October 6th, stop in the refuge visitor center for volunteer assignments. And in Frisco, hit Ramp 49 to check out what the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club will have going on.

Everybody pitch in–call today to find out all the details!
