The Bodie Island lighthouse, just south of Nags Head, has been a shining beacon to mariners since 1847. It is in need of repairs and renovations which have been in the planning stage for the last couple of years.
The funding was provided for the study and planning of the renovation and contract for the actual repair work were expected to be let out next year but now that won’t happen. The white house is cutting funding for domestic projects so they can send the money overseas and this isone of the many projects that has been cut.
