Fishy Fun all October at the NC Aquarium
Published October 3, 2007 by adminManteo’s North Carolina Aquarium, located at the north end of Roanoke Island, is planning fishy fun throughout October. Call (252) 473-3494, ext. 232 for full program information and to register.
A few of the happenings will include: Aqua Tales for Tots, ages 3 to 5; ages 8 and up can enjoy a Behind the Scenes Tour offering a look into the inner workings of the tanks and equipment; and a Breakfast with the Rays will let kids age 6 and up help feed the stingrays.
All programs are available for varying costs and each has a minimum age requirement. Most are offered several times during the month but with limits for each class, so call ahead to register and find out times, prices and special instructions such as types of shoe required, etc.
More intensive instruction is available to budding fisher-people age 8 and up to learn Hook, Line & Sinker Basics, or kids 12 and older can sign up for Surf Fishing for Beginners, an all-day hands-on instruction that will move from the classroom to the beach to test casting and other skills.
A few different arts/crafts programs, such as “gyotaku” fish print instruction, sea treasure wreath-making and painting techniques using seaweed are planned at various times and for small fees.
Twice during October, a Wetlands Walk is planned, starting with catch and release education then actual netting and releasing critters back into the sound.
It’s a “sea of possibilities” at the NC Aquarium in Manteo for fun and learning during October, so call (252) 473-3494, ext. 232 today to find out how your children, family and friends can participate.
