From Sept 10 to Sept 28, 2007 officials with the Army Corp of Engineers will be looking for unexploded bombs and other military ordinance left over from WWII training. Between 1945 and 1965 the Navy used the area surrounding the US Army Corp of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Duck, NC as a target range for bombing and rocket target practice.
The area was cleared of ordinance in the late 1990s but recent wind erosion has uncovered more of the unexploded ordinance. The area to be re-investigated covers about 25 restricted acres next to the Duck Rd. Any periods when the road needs to be closed will be coordinated with the Duck Police
