Second Museum Store to be opened by the Wild Horse Fund in Corolla

Published March 25, 2008 by Sabrina Gordon

A second Wild Horse Museum Store is opening in the Corolla Light Town Center. All proceeds from the sales will help to preserve, protect and manage the wild horse herd. The store will have only horse-related merchandise to purchase. The current museum store is only 100 square feet of the 800 square foot building. The Fund began operating a mustang store and wild horse museum in September 2006. It is located in a 108-year old schoolhouse that was restored by Twiddy and Company. It will still remain the Fund’s headquarters and main location for children’s summer programming.

The current museum store had approximately 35,000 children and adults visit it between September 2006 and December 2007 and they are maxed out on space for retail. To continue to successfully care for the wild horses and to become financially stable they would have to an additional location with more room.

The new location faces NC 12 and the building is 487 square feet. The Corolla Wild Horse Fund is looking for volunteers for both the Museum Store locations. They would help educate visitors on the north beach about respecting the Currituck County Wild Horse Ordinance and to assist with the children’s programs. Seasonal retail positions are also available. For more information visit www.corollawildhorses.com or call 252-43-8002.
