Summer art classes for kids at co-op in kill Devil Hills
Published June 19, 2008 by Sabrina GordonThe KDH Cooperative Gallery and Studios in kill Devil Hills is accepting registration for summer classes for children. There will be different classes for the ages of kids, so there will be something for everyone.
For grades K-2, ages 5 to 7- year olds, the class is called Ocean Explorers on July 7- 11. Kids will explore the ocean and it’s creatures through art. They will make crabs, fish, whales, and mermaids all through the wonderful creation of art.
Celebrate Summer will begin on August 4-8. Kids will paint, draw, and sculpt their ideas on summer, and explore many media outlets while thinking about summer days of the past and imagining what will happen in the days to come of summer break.
Both classes will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. til noon. The cost for each class will be $95.
For 6 to 10-year-olds, the following classes will be offered by the co-op:
Funtastic Fairy Tale July 21-25. Kids who love drama will make props, puppets, and sets to bring a fairy tale to life with a performance at the end of the class. The class will be held on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. til noon and costs $95.
For grades 3-5, ages 8-11 year-olds, the gallery has:
Life Drawing - June 23-27, drawing media will include paints, markers, colored pencils, and many others. Drawing will be done from life, wild life, still life, and everyday life.
Fabulous Fibers- July 28- August 1. Students will get to create tie dye, fabric stamping, silk painting, origami, sewing and weaving. Projects will be hang-able or wearable.
See You in The Funny Papers, August 18-22. Students that are crazy about cartoon characters will learn to design their own characters and storyboards. They will also learn a strong foundation of basic drawing techniques. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. and costs $95.
For kids ages 11-14 the gallery has:
Experimenting with Art Trends from “Back in the Day”
August 11-15-Exploring the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s in art. Students will learn about artists such as Andy Warhol, Peter Max, Jackson Pollock and Keith Haring. The class will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and the cost is $95.
Kids Crafts Workshops will take place Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. with a different project every week using various materials. Check their website for the complete listing with dates and projects or you can pick up a printed copy of programs at the gallery desk. The cost is $30 weekly beginning June 26.
KDH Cooperative Gallery is at milepost 8.5 on Croatan Highway and is open to the public 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. If you would like to register for a class, call 441-9888 or you can stop by the gallery.
