A generous $250,000 donation from the Dare County Tourism Board to The Lost Colony will go a long way towards replacing costumes lost in the recent Lost Colony Costume Shop fire at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site north of Manteo on Roanoke Island.
Only about $40,000 insurance coverage was in place for the costumes.
The Tourism Board voted unanimously to donate the funds which had been set aside for assisting natural, cultural or historic purposes. The donation to the 70-year running outdoor drama is awaiting approval by the Dare County Board of Commissioners.
