Toyota Helps Close Outer Banks Beaches
Published April 10, 2008 by Greg CremiaToyota has donated $20,000,000 to the Audubon Society. Toyota has stipulated that the money has to be used for educational programs, but so what. Now the Audubon Society has more money in their coffers to go help them pay to get the beaches closed. If the beaches get closed it will be done by lawyers. Lawyers are expensive. Now there is $20,000,000 more to spend on the lawyers to get the beaches closed. Toyota insists that since the money is earmarked for education they are not responsible for the closing of the beaches. Wrong. The money that was in the budget for those educational projects can now be diverted to the close the beaches project.
I appreciate it anytime a corporation makes a donation to a charitable cause. There are many good causes deserving funding, especially such a large donation. Thanks Toyota!!
What I don’t understand is, why a company that sells 4×4 trucks is helping an organization that is spending enormous amounts of money to try stop us from from using the 4×4 part of the truck. The attack against off road vehicles is not just on the Outer Banks it is going on at National parks all over the country. If the Audubon Society succeeds, the market for 4×4 vehicles will go down. Thanks Toyota!!
The next time we go shopping for a new truck maybe we should just skip the Toyota dealership. Toyota doesn’t like us Off Road Vehicle users so maybe we should stop driving Toyota trucks.

Wow, Having just finding out that Toyota has donated $20,000,000 to Audubon Society was perfect timing for me. My 1999 GMC Surburban is getting up in miles, and the 4runner has been getting my attention, a logical option with the gas prices hitting a all time high. After reading this post, Toyota is out of the question. Now I need to find out if General Motors is doing the same thing before I buy my 5th Surburban since 1988. Shame on Toyota for expecting consumers to buy their 4X4’s and not being able to use them.

That $20 million really is going to hurt Toyota’s sales in the next coming years. Many 4×4 enthusiast not only those who drive on the beach are going to be unhappy with the donation.
