Vaudeville Tradition Makes Its Way to RIFP
ROANOKE ISLAND- Born 50 years too late for Vaudeville, what does a disenchanted accounting major do? Juggle balls instead of books! Paul Miller of Flow Circus will perform his highly-improvisational and off-the-wall juggling, magic, and physical comedy show as part of the Summer Children’s Performance Series. The show, suitable for all ages, will be held July 1-4 at 10:30 a.m. in the Film Theatre at Roanoke Island Festival Park. The show is free to general admission ticket holders and Friends of Elizabeth II. All guests must have a ticket. Friends of Elizabeth II may pick up tickets in advance at the Park’s Visitor Center during the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or call in advance to reserve the tickets. All others may call (252)475-1500 to reserve tickets
Miller’s 45-minute show is packed with spectacle and hilarity. Balls dance through the air, props perform amazing feats, and magic seems to just happen every now and then. “The show draws from the rich tradition of vaudeville and variety and the emphasis is on creating improvisational moments and uniting people through live performance and shared laughter,” Paul says.
Since graduating college in 1994, Paul has delighted children, family, and adult audiences with his easy-going character and his ever-growing range of skills. His professional highlights include two years cast as a lead performer in a nationally touring, Emmy Award winning show; command performances at First Night Raleigh and Artsplosure; and creator of Raleigh’s largest, non-round balloon sculpture - a 12 foot pirate ship. Terri Dollar, Program Director for Artsplosure and First Night Raleigh says, “Audiences of all ages absolutely love him. He is an exceptional juggler and master entertainer”.
Immediately following the performance, Flow Circus will conduct a workshop teaching children 10+ and their parents to juggle. The Flow Circus method of presenting the steps, identifying common problems, and providing helpful tips makes the process of learning to juggle surprisingly simple.
The mission of Roanoke Island Festival Park is to involve residents and visitors, of all ages, in a creative and stimulating exploration of Roanoke Island’s historical, cultural and natural resources.
